Our Story

Clinical experience, exceptional support

Health STEPS was founded by three experienced registered nurses.

With decades of combined experience in community and hospital settings, including mental health supports, our 3 founders bring a wealth of knowledge and skill to every aspect of our services.


We're proud to be a small, local Melbourne business that puts people first, and we're honored to be able to make a real difference in the lives of those we serve. Meet Our Team

Xinlan Liu

Meet Xinlan! She’s a warm and dedicated mental health nurse with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Nursing. With a diverse background that includes roles as a psychiatric nurse and COVID clinician, Xinlan has gained invaluable experience working in both public and private healthcare settings. She’s also been on the frontlines during the pandemic, making a real impact on those she’s cared for. Xinlan’s hands-on experience as a disability support worker has further shaped her commitment to providing person-centred care with kindness and compassion. Fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, she’s a great communicator who truly understands and connects with people. 

Tendai Machingarufu

Meet Tendai, a compassionate and committed mental health nurse with a genuine passion for helping others. With a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing, Tendai has gained valuable experience working in both clinical and community settings. He’s skilled in everything from providing direct care and emergency psychiatric support to phone triage, and he’s worked with people from all walks of life. Tendai is known for his kind and thoughtful approach, always making sure to listen to each person’s unique story and support them on their journey toward recovery. Above all, Tendai is deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those he works with. Tendai is fluent in both English and Shona.

Mei Yee Chan

Meet Mei Yee, a dedicated and empathetic registered nurse with a wealth of experience in both general and psychiatric nursing. With a Master of Advanced Nursing Practice under her belt, Mei Yee has worked in a variety of leadership roles across hospitals in Victoria, where she’s led teams, provided evidence-based care, and supported patients, especially those navigating mental health challenges and eating disorders.


What sets Mei Yee apart isn’t just her impressive qualifications—she’s also known for her easy-going nature, kindness, and inspiring creativity. She’s someone who brings both heart and expertise to every team she joins, making her a true asset in any setting.


On top of her professional skills, Mei Yee is multilingual, speaking English, Malay, Hokkien, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

We've been nurses for years and have seen the impact that quality support can have on people living with disability.
